Between flights, events and time zones, this summer has genuinely been one of the busiest of my life. I love it, but I’ve learned that if I don’t build in a proper reset when I land, everything else starts to slip.
No plans, no “quick coffee with a friend,” nothing in the diary. I used to try to jump straight back into life the day I landed and I’d be running on fumes within 48 hours. Now that first day is just for me, unpacking, a proper meal, an early night.
Suitcase unpacked and put away immediately, laundry sorted, and everything that didn’t get worn goes back exactly where it belongs. It sounds small, but a chaotic bedroom makes me feel chaotic. A tidy space genuinely calms my mind.
I don’t come home and go straight into an intense gym session. A slow Pilates class or a long walk is usually enough to shake off the travel stiffness and get me back in my body. The intensity comes back in a few days, once I’ve actually rested.
Emails, invoicing, replying to messages. I let it pile up while I’m away and then give myself one focused morning to clear it, rather than trying to answer everything from a hotel lobby. It’s the difference between feeling on top of things and feeling behind for weeks.
This one’s a mindset shift more than anything. I used to feel pressure to immediately share everything from a trip. Now I try to actually live the reset for a day or two before I open my laptop to work through content, it makes such a difference to how present I feel. (My dad always told me about this).
